Charity challenge means business

North East businesses are being asked to back a fundraising competition as part of a drive to get young people into jobs.

The Prince’s Trust’s Million Makers challenge will run in the North East from June. Teams of employees will be tasked with turning a Prince’s Trust investment of £1,500 into a profit of £10,000 by running mini-enterprises over a six month period.

The City of Sunderland College has already signed up for the challenge, and more North East businesses are and organizations are now needed to get the competition started.

Stuart Laverick, Vice Principle for Curriculum at the City of Sunderland College, said: “We are hoping that the Million Makers challenge will provide personal development opportunities for our people including increased self confidence and motivation, developed team skills and networking opportunities.

“Young people are at the heart of what we do. Entering this competition will allow us to support the worthwhile work of the Prince’s Trust, to help enable more young people to achieve their potential. It should also encourage entrepreneurship among our staff which will set a positive example for our students.”

David Beavis, Regional Director for The Prince’s Trust in the North East region said: “With the best of the North East’s business brains behind us, we can change young lives. Million Makers is also proven to improve teams’ confidence and team-working skills, which is more important than ever as companies are forced to cut training budgets during the recession.”
