Revision goes social with GCSEPod

With many GCSE pupils finishing school for the exam period last week, a Newcastle technology company is making a big push with their latest product.

Soundbite Learning UK Ltd are the creators of a podcast revision service, GCSEPod, which has now been integrated into the social networking site Facebook in a bid to make revision more palatable for teenagers.

Soundbite hope that Facebook’s sharing facilities will encourage those studying for GCSEs to share revision techniques and strategies instead of just YouTube videos of cats falling over.

GCSEPod has even recruited Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills to record a geography revision title to raise money for charity. GCSEPod is donating all profits from the recording to raise money for Starlight, a charity that works with critically and terminally ill children.

Scott said: “I know how popular the podcasts of Radio 1 shows are and it seems to be a really good idea for students to be able to download what they need for their GCSEs in the same way. When the guys behind GCSEPod approached me to record this title and said that they would donate all the profits from the recording to Starlight, I jumped at the chance to help.”

Anthony Coxon, Director, Soundbitelearning UK Ltd, said: “There is more than a little ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ in our thinking here. Students of GCSE age spend a lot of time online, much of it on Facebook, or listening to their iPods. By sugaring the revision pill, we hope to make a little more of that time productive.”
