Cricketer hits birdie
A Yorkshire cricket star hurled a ball towards his wicketkeeper - and killed an unlucky pigeon.
The unfortunate bird was flying over Yorkshire’s Headingley ground in Leeds at the time, reports The Sun.
South African Jacques Rudolph, 28, fielded the ball just inside the boundary while playing in a Twenty20 game against Lancashire. He hurled it to his wicket keeper - just as the bird swooped over the pitch - and, to his surprise, the ball hit the pigeon and sent it crashing to the ground.
The former South African international retrieved the lifeless bird and dropped it over the boundary rope. Then he returned to his fielding position, grinning sheepishly at the crowd.
A TV commentator said: “The pigeon is no more. Jacques Rudolph is the man with blood on his hands.”
