New model improves Nissan's fortunes
Nissan are to take on short-term staff at their Sunderland factory after improved sales gave a “major boost” to the firm.
The Qashqai model entered into the top ten list of best selling cars in the UK compiled by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), and now 150 temporary staff are being recruited as a result.
Earlier this year the factory had to lay off 1,200 of its 4,300 staff after falling sales.
A Nissan spokesman said: “Because every Qashqai is built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant, its success is a shot in the arm for UK manufacturing and the British economy.
“We’re delighted with the Qashqai’s jump into the top ten best sellers list.
“We know it’s one of the strongest models on sale in the UK, and this result is proof that the car buying public agrees.”
