Businesses urged to tackle Turkey
Businesses are being urged to follow a growing number of UK firms exploring Turkish markets by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI).
There are currently more than 1,600 UK companies doing business in Turkey, Europe’s sixth largest economy.
The UKTI in the North East and Yorkshire & Humber are hosting a market visit to Turkey, visiting Istanbul in September.
Ron Seymour, one of the UKTI’s International Trade Advisers, said: “Our visit offers an ideal opportunity to explore the market and delegates benefit from being able to share the experience with the fellow businesses as well as the advice of UKTI’s experts both here and in Turkey.”
The market visits offer companies the chance to visit a market with the support of experienced International Trade Adviser as part of a delegation.
Companies have until the 10 July to sign up for the Istanbul visit, and will receive UKTI support before, during and after the visit and may receive financial help for their costs.
Seymour added: “Turkey is a large and emerging market, with a population of around 72 million.
“It is in ongoing negotiations to become a full member of the European Union, which is a key driver for a chance in Turkey’s business environment.
“A total of £2.4bn worth of goods and services were exported from the UK to Turkey in 2008 and some of the main UK investors include Vodafone, Tesco and HSBC.
“The market offers significant opportunities both now and in the long term in virtually every sector, particularly environment, ware, ports and agriculture.”
