Training company invests £1.2m

A training firm is moving to £1.2m premises and taking on six members of staff after a major contract win.

CableCom Training is building a training centre, in Stockton’s Preston Farm Industrial Estate, that is three times the size of its Thornaby office.

It follows investment from the MAP Group UK, one of the country’s leading telecommunications consortiums, for which CableCom will deliver all training, including all Virgin Media training.

The eight-strong core team, backed by up to 40 skilled trainers and assessors, has been strengthened by two administration posts and a Skills 4 Life specialist.

The company also has premises in the Teesport Commerce Park, in South Bank.

Started by Clive Donnison, Roy Fraser and Sean Ratchford in 2000, CableCom provides training in a wide range of sectors, including telecommunications, waste management, security, transportation, teaching and health and safety.

Training courses for the unemployed and ex-offenders, which are supported by Government funding, are run twice weekly.

Training Manager Tony Horridge said: “The people we employ are our most important and valuable asset. It is why we put a lot of effort into quality assurance and we really value having Investors in People alongside other standards such as the Training Quality Standard and Matrix.”
