Council to pulp green guide?
A council’s environmental leaflet that cost £9,000 to print is set to be pulped.
A 68-page book called North Tyneside’s Climate Change Strategy was printed in May and was meant to be the cornerstone of the borough’s green policy.
It was produced just weeks before the mayoral election in North Tyneside and contained forewords by then Labour mayor John Harrison and his cabinet member for sustainable development, Coun John Stirling.
But new Conservative mayor Linda Arkley has shelved the book while she carries out a review and they may end up being pulped.
Mrs Arkley said: “I think it was needless and irresponsible to have it printed when Coun Stirling knew there could be a change in the mayor. But he went ahead and spent the money anyway.”
Coun Stirling said: “I think it’s a bit petty and it’s just because it’s got our photos on it. I was told it was going to be pulped – which is a bit ironic given the subject of the book.”
