DWP supports local charity
The Pension, Disability and Carers Service, part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), has upped its Corporate Social Responsibility by pledging to release up to 25 staff in each quarter to help a regional charity.
To help Young Enterprise North East (YENE) reach its current campaign target, the Pension, Disability and Carers Service has signed up over 100 staff who have volunteered to deliver the enterprise education lessons across the region.
They are the latest supporters of the YENE One Day campaign, which asks employers ‘what could you give up in one day?’
The service has already released 20 staff who have given up their time to volunteer.
Regional coordinator for YENE within Pension, Disability and Carers Service in the North East Tracie Reynolds said: “Feedback from the staff that have already volunteered has been very positive.
“As well as the students benefiting from learning from real life employees, we feel that the programme helps develop both their leadership and communication skills.”
YENE chief executive Catherine Marchant said: “We try to make our programmes as valid as possible and bringing in business people to deliver our campaigns can help students understand a business environment in much greater depth.
“The current economic climate has caused some businesses to put their CSR budget on hold; however our One Day campaign offers businesses other ways to support YENE and play an active part in nurturing our future workforce.”
