Business challenge up and riding

Cyclists from the North East’s business community are being offered the chance to raise money for charity and bag themselves a trophy at the same time.

This years’ Durham Big Ride has a section especially for business to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

Colin Wilkes, one of the Big Ride organisers, said: “With the event being a social ride as oppose to a timed race, we don’t have winners. We are looking for businesses to make up teams of four to enter the challenge with the team raising the most for their given charity being recognised by us with a trophy.”

Peter Bramwell, of Bramwells Jewellers, has provided the trophy. He said: “We are delighted to be a part of the Durham Big Ride and support the Business Challenge. As a local independent business, established for over 140 years, we have always taken a keen interest in city events. We look forward to the Durham Big Ride and hope it proves to be a fun day out for everyone involved.”

The Business Challenge event is open to any size of business and all male, all female or mixed teams.

The trophy will be awarded to the team that collects the most in sponsorship money.

“There is no reason why a firm or company cannot put two, three or four teams into the Challenge. It all adds to the event and hopefully, it will be the charities that will be the big winners,” added Colin.

The Durham Big Ride is on Sunday 6 September 2009. It has four cycle routes ranging from 3 miles to 50 miles. For more information on the event go to www.durhambigride.co.uk.
