Universities "need to aid economic growth"
The North East’s universities need to do more to boost the region’s business, says the new Dean of Sunderland University’s Faculty of Business and Law.
Viv Kinnaird has led the development of international education and work-based learning as Associate Dean for the last five years.
“The University of Sunderland already works extensively with business and industry in the region,” she said. “But it is time to do more.”
“The current economic environment provides an opportunity to work more closely within the region to better understand the needs of business and prepare for the opportunities once the economy recovers.”
Viv believes that engaging “more widely” with business and industry will benefit both students and the economy of the region as a whole.
“We want to better understand the needs of business and be able to respond appropriately,” she remarked.
“Through innovative programme design and a flexible, individualised, approach, we aim to work with students and businesses, regionally, nationally and internationally, to help create sustainable prosperity and life-changing experiences for all.”
