ID Partnership takes lead in sustainable building
A North East architecture practice is aiming to lead the UK’s sustainable housing design market with the creation of a new template for sustainable communities.
The ID Partnership Group’s Newcastle office has been carrying out research for the last two and a half years to gather together information on the best available pre-engineered building types.
ID Partnership now plans to put its research into action with work on the construction of the first eco-home prototype scheduled to begin next year at a location in the North East.
If successful, ID Partnership hopes to export their concept to Europe, and potentially around the world.
Mark Massey, managing partner at ID Partnership’s Newcastle practice, said: “The amount of energy that is used during the ‘whole life’ of a home, including its construction and habitation, is the key challenge for the housing market in the future, and we’ve already put significant resources into looking at how we can meet this challenge.
“We’ve drawn together a huge amount of product and technology information from across Europe, and have developed an approach which we believe could lead the way in the construction of sustainable communities in both domestic and overseas markets in the future.”
ID Partnership’s project development work is being supported by £100,000 of investment from NEL Fund Managers, alongside additional finance from Yorkshire Bank.
Nick Edgar, investment executive at NEL Capital, says: “IDP have taken an innovative, long-term approach towards finding solutions to what will soon become a pressing need in the global housing sector, and their prototype will provide an exciting glimpse of the future of sustainable housing.
“This is yet another investment that has been used to support a business idea which originated in the north east, and we believe this product could go on to have a major impact both across and outside the region.”
