Postcards From the edge of the classroom

A competition to unearth some of North Tyneside’s most promising artists has resulted in a series of postcards being distributed throughout the region.

The postcards feature images of sculptures, photography and paintings all created and designed by students on art and creative courses at TyneMet College.

Following a college competition for artistic students to submit their work, eight winning entries were chosen to feature on a range of art postcards which are on display at art galleries and public places across the region.

David Cheetham, interim principal at the college said: “The standard of work produced by students on our art and creative courses is outstanding and we are keen to ensure that their success is recognised both within and outside of the college. Many of our students’ work is already displayed in public places across the region for others to enjoy but the postcards should allow for even greater enjoyment.”

The final eight winning entries were also submitted to creative agency bgroup, to select an overall winner to produce a piece of art for their new offices on Newcastle’s Quayside. Adele Bingham was selected as the overall winner to receive her first commercial commission.

Siobhan Bales, managing director at bgroup said: “As an expanding creative agency we were keen to get involved in this competition. We were overwhelmed by the high standard of work produced by all of the students but felt that Adele’s moving tribute showed talent and commitment and have given her a creative brief to produce art work for our new offices at Keel House. We are excited to see what she produces and hope we can help to catapult her into a future career in the design and art world.”
