Job event to fuel seasonal recruitment

Over 2,500 jobs will be on offer at a job fair taking place in Newcastle this week.

Around 80 employers will be attending the event at St James’ Park on Thursday.

The fair has been organised by Jobcentre Plus and Newcastle Futures and will take place in the Bamburgh Suite between 11am and 4pm.

Employers attending the event include Marks and Spencer, Debenhams and McDonalds, along with recruitment agencies and training providers. Jobcentre Plus staff will also be on hand to help people with their applications and provide advice on the support available for moving into work.

Sarah Wilkinson, employer engagement manager for Jobcentre Plus, said: “Last year’s event attracted over 3,000 visitors and we are expecting a lot of interest again this year. We are delighted to have so many jobs on offer.

“People will be able to speak to employers face to face and find out about the jobs they have on offer. They’ll also be able to fill out applications on the day, although interviews will be done later.

“Usually we find a lot of people turn up in the first two or three hours but the vacancies will be available all day so it may be better to come along in the afternoon instead.”
