PR professionals fight it out for trophy

Public relations professionals across the North East are battling it out for the chance to win the region’s most prestigious industry award.

The Ken Robinson trophy will be presented at the Gateshead Hilton in November at an awards ceremony organised annually by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Nominations for the PR Professional of the Year award – now in its 22nd year –will be judged by members of the CIPR’s North East Group.

Its chairman Sally Keith said: “The annual CIPR PRide Awards are a very popular event and celebrate the great work being carried out by PR consultancies and in-house PR departments from across the region.

“The judges, all experienced industry leaders from outside the North East, have rigorous criteria to evaluate just how well the entrants have helped their organisations or clients achieve their objectives or win a competitive edge in their marketplace. Winners from our event go through to a national Grand Prix where they compete against winners from other parts of the UK.

“But, without doubt, the trophy which everyone hopes to win is the Ken Robinson trophy which is awarded in memory of one of the region’s first PR practitioners Ken Robinson who was public relations officer for the old Tyne & Wear County Council.”

The trophy was originally awarded at the annual North East Press Awards but moved across to the PR industry awards when they were launched in 2000.
