200 jobs boost Sunderland economy
The leader of Sunderland City Council has backed new plans that will create over 200 jobs in the city.
The American telecoms corporation, 2Touch, will create the posts over the next six months at its base on Doxford International Business Park.
The new jobs take the number of 2Touch employees in Sunderland to 900, as part of a £1m investment project in new technology and development at the site.
Coun Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “This investment in the city emphasises the importance of our links with the United States and the rest of the world for Sunderland’s residents and businesses.
“This is excellent news for the contact centre industry in Sunderland. The skilled and adaptable workforce we have in Sunderland is a key reason why the city is able to attract investment form international investors.”
The new jobs, which include telephony advisors to senior management roles, are being created following new contracts in the telecoms sector to meet rising demand for services.
Stuart Gray, Managing Director of 2Touch, said: “Sunderland has always been a fantastic base for us. We’ve been in the city for over 20 years and are delighted to be expanding.
“The expansion is great news for the city, offering new career opportunities and prospects for people joining us.”
The latest job creation boosts the number of people employed in the contact centre industry in Sunderland to more than 9,000.
