Northumbria searches for top cop
A North East police authority is looking for a new Chief Constable.
The Northumbria Police Authority (NPA) has started the search for the head of one of the country’s largest police forces.
The current Chief Constable Mike Craik is due to leave his post in March 2010 and the process of finding a replacement can take a long time.
Potential applicants will get three weeks to submit their applications before the official process gets underway. A senior appointments panel from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary will then approve the list of candidates before the NPA compiles a shortlist.
Councillor Mick Henry, chair of the NPA, said: “This is one of the most exciting and challenging jobs in policing and we are looking for candidates of the highest possible calibre. Our current Chief Constable will be a really hard act to follow, but we want to attract someone who can have the same type of high-level impact on crime.
“Northumbria is one of the country’s best performing police forces and it will take an exceptional range of skills to successfully fill this exciting role.”
