Lottery funding boost for North East
Thirty-three community projects across the North East have received a windfall of around £251,000 from the Big Lottery Fund as part of the Awards for All programme.
Among the most prominent awards were £10,000 for a training scheme for people with learning disabilities in Gateshead, £10,000 for a DJ and music technology workshop in Stockton, and £7,500 for the only remaining shop in Humshaugh, Northumberland.
James Turner, North East head of the Big Lottery Fund, said: “These projects can make a real difference to young people’s lives, offering them an opportunity to try something that perhaps they haven’t found at school.
“Not only will they be doing something that they can feel passionate about, but they will be learning career skills along the way.
“We are so pleased we can help support the project and 32 others in the North East with grants of a quarter of a million pounds this month.”
Awards for All was launched on April 1, and offers grants of between £300 and £10,000 to social and environmental projects that will benefit local communities and make a difference to the lives of those most in need.
