Staff that take breaks ?more productive?

Small business bosses must ensure that they ensure that employees take regular breaks to limit stress and increase their productivity, according to the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas).

Acas have claimed that staff that do not take their lunch break or take any breaks during the day are actually being counter-productive, as they would get more work done if they took a break.

“Managers can play a key role in reducing pressure and stress by actively encouraging their staff to take breaks. Employees are more likely to be productive if they take the breaks they are entitled to, so there are benefits to the organisation too,” said Jane Bird of Acas.

Recent research revealed that the traditional British lunch hour has shrunk to an all-time low, lasting an average of just 35 minutes.
