ONE outlines region's strengths
The North East is ‘better placed’ than ever before to take advantage of the economic upturn at the end of the recession, One North East Chief Executive Alan Clarke has told regional business leaders.
Mr Clarke and One North East Chairman Margaret Fay addressed an audience of business leaders at One North East’s Annual Review Meeting in Durham’s Radisson Blu Hotel.
The meeting heard of the region’s business achievements over the past year, the challenges that still remain for the regional economy and how a more diverse economic base stands the region in good stead for future growth.
Trevor Mann, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Manufacturing in Europe, detailed the Sunderland plant’s plans to capitalise on the future development of electric vehicle technology.
Mr Clarke said: “I know that after years of consistent regional economic growth and with a far more diverse business base, we are weathering this economic storm far better than in the past, better equipped to take advantage of the upturn when it arrives.
“Major investment in new industries - such as electric vehicle technology by Nissan and the public sector, new and renewable energies such as offshore wind power and advances in the process industries sector - will help underpin the North East economy of the future.”
