Investment leading to jobs at Metrocentre

A new £4m entertainment complex is heading to Gateshead bringing with it 70 full and part-time jobs to the region.

Namco Fun Scape will open its doors to the public at the beginning of November following the redevelopment of the 38,000sq ft space at the new Metrocentre Qube site.

With three function rooms and a lounge bowling area, Fun Scape will cater for large corporate events and a complete entertainment area for young people and families.

Phillip Millward, operations director for Namco UK, believes the site in Gateshead will be the flagship for Namco in the region as well as the UK, brining with it new job opportunities and investment.

He said: “The area available to us in the Metrocentre was perfect to create an exciting fully servicing entertainment experience.

“The size of the space meant we could offer more to customers and our new staff.”

The complex will also feature an 18 lane ten pin bowling centre, the fastest dodgem track in Europe and five new restaurants.

Barry Turnbull, general manager at Metrocentre, added: “We have been redeveloping the Yellow Mall at Metrocentre since spring 2008 with the view to creating a complete entertainment area.

“Metrocentre Qube will make our customers’ visits a complete shopping, leisure and dining experience.”
