Launch of 'Pass it on' campaign in Consett
A healthy eating campaign launched last year by TV chef Jamie Oliver will begin its North East rollout this week.
The 12 free events will take place in County Durham as part of a campaign to support Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food, following the Channel 4 television programme aired last year.
The campaign, which is known as ‘Pass It On County Durham’ will support people to learn how to cook for free before they are asked to pass on their newly learnt skills to their friends and family.
Up to 60 people are expected to take part in the first event, which takes place on Wednesday at Consett Civic Hall.
Carol Wilson, learning for health manager said: “We are delighted to bring this exciting opportunity to local communities across County Durham. Each of the events and courses are an excellent way to help people to cook more confidently and try new dishes. It is a great way to help people to make new friends, whilst learning new skills and improving their own health.”
Each of the courses and events will be delivered by the Pioneering Care Partnership after they were awarded over £66,000 in funding from NHS County Durham’s Health Innovation Programme and the government’s Learning Revolution Transformation Fund.
Over 700 people are expected to take part in one of the 12 free events or courses, which will take place across County Durham until 2010, with up to 200 people taking part in 12 courses following the events.
