CQ:WORDplay Festival
WHITLEY BAY HOSTS THE FIRST NORTH TYNESIDE LITERARY FESTIVAL
Saturday 17th October, 2009 at St Paul?s Church Whitley Bay 10.00am ? 5.30pm
CQ:WORDplay Festival is bringing the cream of the North East?s publishing world to Whitley Bay.
Combining a book fair, author and poetry readings, writing workshops and local theatre company performances, WORDplay, is an artistic departure in the cultural calendar of North Tyneside. Entry to the event is free.
15 top northern publishers will attend the Book Market, bringing 17 of their best selling authors to give readings and sign copies of their latest books in the ?AndBeDamned? marquee. From poetry to thrillers, from rock & roll to environmental issues, from children?s books to an edgy factual book set in Beirut and the most contemporary fiction, the public will be able to buy the latest on offer.
Peter Mortimer along with favourite local authors, Kitty Fitzgerald, Carol Clewlow and many others will read from their most recent books and two of New Writing North?s featured Read Regional authors, Valerie Laws and Nik Jones will read from their latest novels in the ?WriteOutLoud? room. Short drama performances given by local drama groups will be interspersed with the readings
The ?WordWorks? workshops are designed to appeal to all ages and the public is invited for a small fee to join up, though space is limited. Ranging from a children?s writing and illustrating workshop to creating comic books - to writing a monologue or being involved in drama writing workshop with a live performance of the finished work.
The popular Story Chair from ?Seven Stories? Centre for Children?s Books will feature in the dedicated children?s marquee ?Yoof?
