Wunderbar Festival
A brand new biennial Live Art and Performance Festival bringing high-quality contemporary artists and work to the region. An international festival with a regional heart! Expect two weeks of surprise, mischief and intrigue as brave new collaborations, live work, performances, visual art, installations and extraordinary happenings are presented alongside new and innovative work from national and international artists.
Highlights of the festival include Tours of People?s Homes, a new commission for the artist Joshua Sofaer featuring a series of public performances inside the homes of selected participants. These might be anything from a staged performance to a tea party, a film, talk, a striking visual installation or even a quirky musical recital.
Elsewhere, renowned actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company will read a series of humorous Shakespearean public announcements, written by a well known comedian, which will be broadcast over public address systems at shopping centres and other public spaces.
City centre shopping areas, such as Newcastle?s Eldon Square and Grainger Market, will be the venue for Rajni Shah?s participatory work give what you can, take what you need, based around the idea of community and conversation through gift-giving.
The festival will also feature the lo-fi daredevil performance Watch Me Fall - Bristol-based artists Action Hero?s version of Evel Knievel?s 1967 Caesar?s Palace motorcycle jump.
Hosted by, and produced in collaboration with, a broad range of the region?s venues, companies and artists Wunderbar Festival is part of NewcastleGateshead?s world-class programme of festivals and events developed by culture10.
