Success celebrated at Northern Marketing Awards

The Northern Marketing awards came to NewcastleGateshead last night, offering an end-of-year celebration to showcase the high levels of marketing excellence in the past year.

bdaily were proud to part-sponsor the black tie awards, held at the Marriot Hotel in Gosforth, open to companies, in-house departments and individuals in the North of England.

The night offered the chance for companies to celebrate each others’ successes, as well as highlight new and emerging talents, as the winner of New Marketer of the Year award, Martin Hall, explained.

He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to just be nominated for an award, and to be selected and go up on stage when you look at the quality of the other contenders is a great achievement.

“Obviously it’s a great stepping-stone for my career, with this being the highlight of my career so far. To be recognised by the industry work in to this level, I couldn’t be happier. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.”

It is not just the individuals who benefit – the awards offer a chance to focus on the talent that is coming out of the North of England.

Emma Fagan, Project Manager for the event organisers Benchmark Communications, said: “Awards like this can generate awareness within the region, and also because these are the Northern Marketing awards we’re trying to get a wide spread of people from all over the North of England to come into the region to look at what is on show here.

“The pressures at the moment mean the marketing budget is one of the first things to be cut. Awards ceremonies are a great way to boost spirits and tonight everyone’s been cheering. It’s coming to the end of the year and having everyone together having a good time is just the morale booster you need for a hopefully better 2010.”

Steve Garrick, who picked up the Grand Prix award – ‘the most outstanding and impressive entry’ of all the shortlisted entries – on behalf of Generate Sponsorship, said: “I think from our point of view, so many people have been involved with a great effort and communicating what we do is a really important part of the business. To win an award is a good indication that we’re doing the right thing and we’re moving in the right direction.

“Entering awards, and hopefully winning awards, is a fantastic mark of achievement by someone else’s measure. It’s all well and good us saying we’re doing the right thing, but somebody else saying that is even better.”
