Ice rink delayed by Belgian arms dealers
As we mentioned elsewhere today, Durham has opened a new ice rink for the Christmas period. The installation hasn’t all been plain sailing (skating?), however, as the rink was originally set to open last weekend – but was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.
But, we hear you ask, what were these unforeseen circumstances?
It turns out that special cooling equipment was being imported from Belgium (yes, Belgium. Apparently they know a lot about ice skating) to help maintain the freezing temperatures required for the ice. However, upon their arrival in the UK, the devices were seized by customs officers, who believed that they were, in fact, rocket launchers.
Thankfully the rocket launcher – sorry, the cooling equipment – is now in place and the ice rink is ready to go. You’ll excuse us if we step out onto the ice with a degree of trepidation…
