North East conference to promote reablement agenda
A regional conference today plans to look at ways in which services across the North East can work together to help those who have lost skills and confidence through ill health or injury.
Reablement For All –taking place at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light today – will bring together health and social care professionals in a bid to develop a strategy that can be rolled out across the region’s 12 local authorities.
Wendy Balmian, Deputy Regional Director of the Department of Health, said: “Reablement truly supports independent living. It enables people to regain skills they may have lost through trauma or ill health and it can prevent further deterioration.”
Reablement forms a key part of the Government’s personalisation agenda as it is increasingly recognised that giving people the tools to remain independent can also reduce the pressures on health and social care budgets.
The conference will give health and social care practitioners and key decision makers the opportunity to discuss best practice options and how reablement services can best be mainstreamed across the North East.
The event will include a range of key note speakers including Gerard Pilkington of Care Services Efficiency Delivery who will highlight the national perspective on reablement and Dr Guy Turnbull of the Social Work Co-operative who will provide a look at services within the region.
A number of workshops are also planned throughout the day to allow professionals to share best practice, with the hope of using the information gathered to shape an action plan for reablement in the North East.
Health or social care professionals who would like to attend the conference should call Sorted PR on 0191 265 6111 for a booking form or email info@sortedpr.com.
