Durham businesses upbeat about 2010
Fast-acting businesses in the recession will be best placed to take advantage of opportunities during 2010, a North East business club has predicted.
Durham Business Club has said that many of its 300 members are confident about the year ahead, with several reporting a record year this year.
The organisation said it is those who adapted who are now reaping the rewards, and are likely to do so again in the coming 12 months and beyond.
One such company is events installation company Spacecraft, from Tanfield Lea, County Durham, which has just recorded its best trading figures.
Managing director Jacqui Chapman said: “When the warnings came, we made a conscious decision to strategically change things.
“That meant not putting all our eggs in one basket and to concentrate on providing excellent service for our existing clients while actively bringing in new business.”
Christine Yule, business club development director, said: “We’re certainly not getting carried away because there are still members who have had a difficult year, but we are hearing that things are improving.
“Those members who are thriving are those that actively did something about the recession when the first warnings came.
“That might be diversifying, increasing marketing activity or tightening credit control. There have been some success stories this year and it’s important to celebrate them.”
