Volunteers are on the right track this Christmas
A North East volunteer programme is going from strength to strength over the festive season.
The project, called Culture Track, has recently celebrated a milestone, received a string of awards and tound that its volunteers are more dedicated than ever to lend a hand over Christmas.
Culture Track, which is aimed at helping unemployed North East residents gain new skills and accredited qualifications has recently seen the tenth person on the programme secure employment as a result of their volunteering roles.
Lauren Prince, Culture Track project coordinator, said: “We are delighted to see another person secure employment through Culture Track. This is the tenth person in nine months which is a real milestone for the programme.
“Culture Track’s dedicated volunteers have also received a number of awards at the North East Volunteers Awards 2009 and the North East Regional Museums Hub Volunteer Awards. As a result of the programmes success, our volunteers are more enthusiastic than ever to help museums across the region get into the festive sprit.”
Culture Track offers its volunteers roles and training courses to suit their needs and interests. Support, advice and guidance is provided on a one to one basis to help develop volunteers, build their CV, improve their interview skills and assist with job searches.
A number of volunteers on the programme have been helping Santa deliver gifts to children at Stephenson Railway Museum this December.
John Nicholls, a Culture Track volunteer who has been helping on the Santa Specials train trips said: “I have really enjoyed helping out with the special Christmas events, it’s really got me into the festive mood. I love volunteering and have been involved with many different aspects of museums through Culture Track.”
