Carnival planners need Wise Person
Last week in bdaily we heard about the ambitious plans for Newcastle’s New Year’s Eve carnival, and the organisers are now looking for help from the public.
Walk the Plank, the events company putting on the celebration, are looking for the wisest person they can find to lead the parade.
The specially selected Wise Person will ride a 2.5m high and 3m long tiger, which will accompany Kinetika’s South East Asian Peacock Queen at the head of the carnival. Leading the parade between 5-6pm, the Wise Person will be accompanied by drummers heralding the Peacock Queen’s arrival.
To apply, Wise People in the making need to be aged 14 or older, available from 12pm until 6pm on 31st December and able to stand for the duration of the carnival. Applicants should email Liz at Walk the Plank (liz@walktheplank.co.uk) by the deadline of 5pm on Monday 21 December and state why they would like to take on the role.
Liz Pugh, Producer and Co-founder of Walk the Plank, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fire and ice spectacular, full of colour, music and dance. We’re expecting lots of enquiries from people keen to secure the Wise Person’s role, which is a key element of the New Year’s Eve Festive Winter Carnival.”
Stella Hall, Creative Director of culture10, who commissioned the event, said: “Who wouldn’t want to take advantage of this one-off chance to be part of the city’s dynamic New Year’s Eve festivities, when the city will be lit up with dancers, carnival queens and a prowling tiger? It’s the type of story you save up to tell the grandchildren in years to come, which is why we expect a strong response.”
