Bakery in Administration
A North East bakery firm has reportedly gone into administration, potentially affecting up to 140 staff.
North East Bakery, based in Newcastle, recently announced plans to grow the company’s turnover from £3.5m to £5m.
A sign taped to the door of a shop read: “North East Bakery which operated this store is in administration and this store is now closed.”
Managing Director Greg Phillips, who was voted Young Business Person of the Year in 2008 in the North East Business Executive of the Year Awards, was unavailable to comment.
The five-year-old business opened two branches this year, expanding the company’s Nichols brand.
At the time, Mr Phillips said: “The Nichols brand is firmly established across the North East, and we’re now working hard to locate or move our stores into the very best High Street locations.”
The company has made no announcement at this time on the 140 strong staff, or the future of North East Bakery .
