Ski slope sees winter boost
Leisure chiefs say the number of skiers flocking to a snow-covered dry slope in Sunderland has more than doubled during the cold weather.
With sub-zero temperatures expected to last well into next week Silksworth is expecting even more visitors to the slalom run, with some skiers reportedly ditching holiday plans to stay at home and ski on Wearside.
Craig Ruddick, a ski instructor at the leisure centre, said: “The snow fetches out people who would normally go on holiday. The conditions are just like being on a real slope. We get a lot more punters.”
Michael Dodds, manager at the ski slope said the snow is attracting new people to the slope.
He added: “It’s nice to see snow on the slope, giving all ski and snow boarders the chance to experience real snow at Silksworth, and it’s a great opportunity for people who can’t ski to have a look at the beginners slopes and why not experience a ski or snow boarding lesson.”
