Street calls police on giant snowball
Residents of a North Yorkshire street had to call the police when they woke to find themselves blocked in by a giant snowball.
Would-be jokers had left the massive mound, about the height of a person, at the entrance to their cul-de-sac in Hemingbrough, near Selby, reports the York Press.
Residents tried to roll it out of the way but it was so heavy they had to call the police, who in turn asked North Yorkshire County Council’s highways department for help.
Eventually the snow ball was cleared - but only after a snow plough was brought in to break it up and push the snow to the roadside.
A council spokesman said the authority did not want to stop people enjoying the snow, but urged them not to do anything to make conditions even worse on the roads.
He said: “It could be very dangerous, as if you collide with a huge lump of ice going at any speed you’re going to damage your vehicle and potentially yourself.”
