Paper uses Kylie as yardstick
The Daily Telegraph this week published a story with a headline that we here at bdaily think is one of the best of 2010.
The headline runs “Man catches carp the weight of Kylie Minogue”.
The story concerns angler Martin Locke, who went out fishing in a t-shirt during the cold snap (which is a story in itself) and ended up breaking the world record for catching the biggest ever carp. Weighing in at 94lbs, the carp weighs (according to the Telegraph) the same as the diminutive Australian songstress.
What we’re now wondering is why Kylie Minogue was chosen as the weight comparison for this story, instead of some other, more relatable object. Is this going to lead to celebrities being used as a comparison for other measurements?
We certainly hope so. It would mean that there would finally be a use for the information we learned years ago that a football pitch is the same length as 60.5 Tom Cruises lying end-to-end.
