‘Question Time’ consultation on nuclear Hartlepool
People in the North East will be given an opportunity later this month to quiz a panel of experts over proposals to build a new nuclear power station in Hartlepool.
The ‘Question Time’ style event is being organised by Hartlepool Council and will take place at Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience starting on Tuesday 26 January.
In November last year the Government launched a public consultation exercise after Hartlepool was confirmed as one of the 10 potential sites for new nuclear power stations.
Hartlepool Council has already said that it will be sending its own response to the consultation but it wants to hear the views of local people to help shape its own submission.
It is hoped that the Government’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), EDF, the company who nominated Hartlepool as a site for a new power station and Greenpeace will all be represented on the panel. The event will be chaired by Joy Yates, Editor of the Hartlepool Mail.
Places will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and people are being urged to submit questions in advance. Entrance is by pre-registration only.
Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond said: “The ‘Question Time’ event is part of a series of initiatives which the Council is undertaking to gather the views of local people.
“This is a really important issue for Hartlepool and all of the views expressed will help to shape the Council’s own submission to the Government’s consultation exercise.”
Anyone wanting to apply for a ticket or submit a question should email enterprisecentre@hartlepool.gov.uk.
