NUFC signs Puma deal
Newcastle United has announced a two-year deal with German sportswear giant Puma that will bring an end to its lengthy relationship with Adidas.
The deal will see Puma supply all of the club’s kit from the start of the 2010/11 season as it makes its first change of strip manufacturer since the early nineties.
Adidas has been associated with Newcastle since the height of Kevin Keegan’s first reign as manager after it took over the kit deal from Asics in 1995.
NUFC commercial director Barry Webber said: “They are an ideal partner for us with the experience and ability to deliver a top class product for the club and its supporters.
“With all of its proven technical experience, innovative product design and support systems, we are excited about the future and look forward to a successful partnership.”
Puma will take over from Adidas as the Magpies’ official shirt-maker and the sportswear brand said the deal will give it great exposure in the football world.
Puma UK managing director Tony Ward said: “With innovative product, referencing Newcastle’s strong heritage, coupled with great service, we are confident of an excellent partnership.
“Newcastle United is a club with a passionate and loyal fan base and we look forward to the start of the new season and the new kit making its first appearance.”
The news comes just 24 hours after the club announced that Northern Rock had renewed its shirt-sponsorship contract for a further four years in a deal said to be worth between £1.5m and £10m.
