City investors flock to North East-born trading academy
A Northumberland sports investment firm has seen courses at its new London training academy oversubscribed by City bankers looking for a change of career.
Last November, Centaur Global, of Seahouses, launched a multi-million pound training academy in the heart of London’s financial district.
And, in the weeks since its launch, it has already attracted huge demand, largely from City traders on the hunt for a new challenge.
The company has long been involved in horse race tipping and bloodstock services alongside sports betting funds.
It launched the new 4,000 sq ft centre in London’s City Tower offices amid the introduction of new European legislation which is expected create a surge of demand for sports fund investment vehicles and experts.
The company believes the centre is the first of its kind in the world and aims to sell software products on the back of the success of the training courses.
Keith Sobey, the Northumbrian entrepreneur behind Centaur said: “So far we have had three or four courses which have been full and two of which have been oversubscribed.
“Most people on the courses are from the City since we are based in the centre of London. From next month we will start our online webinar programme, which means we can run the courses for the world at large.”
Centaur has a portfolio, worth around £5m, of investment funds and runs a number of investment vehicles including Maxnet – which involves analysts recommending trades on teams not to win.
