Leisure group expands into Teesside
North East leisure chain Principle Direct has gained its first foothold on Teesside by taking over a former video store in Guisborough.
The company currently operates seven venues across the region, including Popolo and Blue Coyote in Newcastle and Riverbar and Ristorante Fiume in Washington.
It also operates in the Midlands and Yorkshire nut will establish its first site on teesside when it moves into the site at Westgate which will be transformed into a continental bar, complete with the town’s first rooftop terrace.
The now derelict site in Guisborough town centre, has been leased for an undisclosed sum by Principle to add to its portfolio of 10 bars and restaurants.
The move has been assisted by Redcar and Cleveland Council’s Uplifting Our Town Centres programme, which is designed to reduce the number of empty or blighted properties across the Borough.
It offers businesses up to 50% contribution for undertaking external improvements on the premises, up to a maximum contribution of £5,000.
Preliminary works on the Westgate site began in December 2009, with the fit out scheduled to start in February 2010.
Principal’s managing director Stuart Young said: “Principle Leisure Ltd has already built a strong reputation across Tyne and Wear, Yorkshire and the Midlands and we are extremely excited about working with Redcar and Cleveland Council to bring the brand to Teesside for the very first time.”
