Creatives to show of their ideas to the world

A North East science manager has urged the region’s creative businesses to take part in an international event to showcase their DIY inventions.

Maker Faire is coming to Newcastle next month as the centrepiece to Newcastle ScienceFest , and is looking for 15 businesses to display their ideas.

The event will form part of a ten-day festival, taking place at the Centre for Life and Discovery Museum. ScienceFest Manager, Marissa Buckingham, said: “This is an opportunity for creative businesses and individuals to make new contacts and test public reaction to their products.

“We are looking for the very best talent to show off the rich creative spirit that exists here in North East England.”

This is the second time Newcastle will host the event, which first visited the UK last February, attracting a total audience of over 7,000.

Linda Conlon, Chair of the Newcastle ScienceFest steering group, added: “Maker Faire has a huge following in the States and Japan.

“As the opening weekend of ScienceFest 2010, we can’t wait for the excitement and enthusiasm that the inventions will create. I hope it encourages others to experiment and create their own imaginative ideas.”
