NGI head to step down
Regeneration body NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI) has announced that its chief executive Andrew Dixon is to step down from his post after landing a similar role in Scotland.
Mr Dixon has been appointed to take on the leadership of Creative Scotland - a new strategic body for the arts, film and creative industries north of the border.
The 51-year-old has been at the helm of NGI since 2005 and was previously chief executive of Northern Arts and an executive director of the Arts Council.
In his 21 years in the North East he has been involved in many of the region’s major cultural developments and has attracted several major events and projects to the region.
He helped to champion and raise the funds for projects including the Angel of the North, The Sage Gateshead, Seven Stories and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts.
He also brought the World Summit on Arts and Culture to the UK in 2006 and worked with The Sage Gateshead to attract the world music expo WOMEX in 2005.
Most recently been leading the NewcastleGateshead bid to be a Candidate Host City for the FIFA World Cup in 2018/2022.
He said, “I have had 21 fantastic years based in the North East and am very proud of what has been achieved by the team at NewcastleGateshead Initiative and our Area Tourism Partnership, Tourism Tyne and Wear.
“The new role in Scotland offers an opportunity to build on the pride and passion of a nation with many similarities to our region.”
Andrew leaves a strong team and board at NewcastleGateshead Initiative led by Chairman Jamie Martin, managing partner of Ward Hadaway.
