Palringo talks its way out of recession
Keeping people in touch with each other has helped see a Newcastle technology firm through the recession.
Palringo, a program for use on computers and mobile phones, combines walkie-talkie style voice chat (known as vocal instant messaging) with the real-time text chat of instant messaging. It also allows interaction between different instant messaging services, such as MSN and Windows Messenger.
The firm received two rounds of investment, the last of which, £2.5m, came just as the economy headed into recession at the end of 2007.
Palringo’s Chief Technical Officer, Martin Rosinski, said: “The funding we had was just before the collapse of the economy, and that really allowed us to weather the recession.
“The investors were quite excited about the product already, and since then we’ve grown and we’ve got some exciting developments in the pipeline.
“Our goal is to continue to grow the company as quickly as possible – we’ll be in Barcelona for the Mobile World congress this week, speaking to potential partners.”
One of Palringo’s next targets is to integrate the internal messaging function of social networking site Facebook, called Facebook Chat, into the Palringo service.
