Uncovering the truth about red tape
The search is on for businesses to take part in a £240,000 project which aims to expose the true impact of rules and regulation on SMEs.
The Newcastle University-led study will compare firms in the North East and South East in the bio-processing, film and interactive media and security sector.
Researchers behind the project are keen to hear from North East business to take part, having already secured the services of bdaily’s sister company bgroup.
The study will look at how small businesses receive, understand and respond to regulation in different sectors and geographical region.
Regulation and red-tape are stereotypically cited as one of the major hindrances to the success of small businesses.
Researcher hope to gain a better understanding of the impact of regulation is needed to ensure that the Government gets the extent and forms of regulation right, without unduly harming the development of important businesses sector.
Newcastle University’s Centre for knowledge Innovation Technology and Enterprise (KITE), Business School and Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies will all be involved in the research.
The project has also enlisted the help of Professor Monder Ram of Leicester De Montfort University, who is an international expert in small business studies.
