Bookmaker turns punters’ pal

The former boss of one of the region’s biggest gambling firms has launched a new business which aims to tip off punters on the best bets around.

David Archer, a founder and former managing director of North East companies Pagebet and Reuben Page, which was sold to Gala Coral in 2007, has launched a new website to save punters time and to make it easier for them to access more than £2,600 worth of free bets on the market.

Durham-based Freebets.com is newly launched but has already won the backing of 30 major bookmakers including William Hill, Sporting Bet, Totesport and Bet365 who will act as affiliates.

The site includes betting news and information about up coming events, as well as the free bet of the day and the most popular free bets.

It is expected to become a major tool for punters in the run up to the Cheltenham Festival and football World Cup, as well as for daily sporting events with exclusive offers for freebets.com customers.

Mr Archer said: “We’re an aggregator of the mass of promotions and bonuses offered by on-line bookmakers. There are hundreds out there but coming to us makes it simpler for punters.

“I’m using my knowledge of the industry to advise on what I consider to be the best value offers and to point people easily in the right direction. Punters can be confident they are seeing the best promotions and can access them easily.”

Mr Archer has invested a six figure sum in the venture to date, and had the website developed by search engine optimisation specialists Stickyeyes, of Leeds.

He now has plans to create a portfolio of sites dedicated to specific niches in the sports and betting markets, with the next likely to be www.freefootballbets.com

The company which uses social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter, anticipates recruiting five staff during 2010.
