Support for Corus workers
Regeneration bosses have announced a package of support to the 1,600-strong workforce at the Teesside Cast Products (TCP) who are facing redundancy.
The Corus Response Group is leading expert help for 1,600 TCP workers and those in the plant’s supply chain affected by the decision to partially mothball the Redcar plant.
Alan Clarke, One North East chief executive and chairman of the Corus Response Group, said: “The decision to partially mothball the plant is a major blow for the workforce and wider Tees Valley economy.
“The dedicated TCP workforce has continued to work tirelessly for many months despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of the plant, making news of mothballing even more painful for them.
“I know that the senior management team at TCP and the trade unions have examined every possible option in an effort to keep the Redcar plant open and we will continue to support all efforts to find a buyer.”
The package includes:
A dedicated resource centre on site at TCP within Steel House staffed by employment experts.
Access to the latest job vacancies posted with Jobcentre PlusOne to one advice sessions with all staff.
-
Skills analysis to identify other career options if necessary Advice on self employment options
-
Benefits, pension and tax credits advice CV updating and interview techniques
As well as the response group support, One North East has agreed an extra £3.8m investment to help support 65 apprentices at Corus to complete their training and boost business start up opportunities in the Tees Valley - expanding the help available to TCP employees.
