Creative hub opens its doors
Where once hordes of high-spirited revellers danced into the early hours, young creatives will now come to express themselves in a more conservative manner.
Next week a prime site on Newcastle’s Quayside, formerly known as the popular Julies nightclub, will open its doors as the latest creative hub on Tyneside.
Around £3m of investment by web development firm Enigma Interactive has transformed the site into a 10,000 sq ft business centre. Enigma will make the move across town from its current home on Newcastle’s Pink Lane to take up half of the available space in the building next week.
However, Enigma is hoping to fill the remainder of the site with digital and creative businesses from the region.
Managing director Steve Grainger said: “It’s up to us what to decide what to do with the extra space but it will be marketed as Quayside studios.
“A full floor will remain as well as some attic space which would make a good seminar room and could also be quite good for small presentations or launches.”
If more businesses follow Enigma into the former nightspot, the prominent site will join the likes of the Hoults Yard and The Brick Works among Tyneside’s growing stable of creative business hubs.
