Shot in the arm for medical group
Fast-growing medical firm Connect Physical Health has landed three NHS contracts worth up to £3m that will boost its earnings by 75%.
The Cramlington company, which employs 110 people, is looking to create between 10 and 20 new jobs this year as it enjoys strong demand for several emerging revenue streams.
Last year the group assisted 35,000 NHS patients through its various physiotherapy services.
As well as running four clinics and supplying large corporations with in-house physiotherapists it has also established a network of national partners to work with smaller firms.
It has also launched an online advisory service for patients after its own research found that the majority of people who visit certain specialist surgeons never end up having surgery.
Its new NHS contracts which are potentially valued at up to £3m are with Primary Care Truats in Sunderland, Gateshead and Camden, London.
Managing director Andrew Walton said the company had also seen a surge in demand for its services to personal injury lawyers and insurance firms.
He said: “We have had a drastic increase in that part of the business in the last year. We teamed up with some personal injury lawyers and insurance companies who refer people to us.
On the new online physio service, Mr Walton said: “We discovered that 70% of people who see orthopaedic surgeaons don’t end up having surgery. It was recognized there were people with complex problems that couldn’t be dealt with by physio so we set up a service with consultant GPs. Developing that has helped us win new business.”
