3D adverts on their way
Three-dimensional adverts could soon be jumping out of shop windows across the region after a Tyneside firm signed a partnership to bring the technology to the North East.
Blaydon Communications has been appointed as Northern channel partner for the Luminis 3D digital signage system, the UK’s first ‘glasses free’ 3D signage system.
The Luminis system delivers 3D images to the naked eye, with no need for special glasses.
The system works using ‘lenticular’ screen technology, which means the device incorporates transparent, cylindrical lenses called lenticules to project light in acute angles to generate different images to each eye.
On a recent demonstration a man who had lost an eye stood transfixed for 40 minutes. This was the first time he had ever seen a 3D image, since until now, 3D required two eyes seeing two different images.
Blaydon communications managing director Paul Dougherty says: “This technology is a huge step forward in point of sale and signage.
“The effect of 3D is particularly stunning since you are not expecting it; we are all conditioned to expect 3D only when wearing special glasses.
“The Luminis system provides a business opportunity for advertising agencies and media content houses in the North of England and Scotland since they can utilise standard 3D content creation systems to incorporate computer generated images with photographic images and text.”
