BA Employee arrested on Tyneside
A company employee on Tyneside is reportedly being questioned on suspicion of terrorist fund-raising after being arrested at offices in Newcastle.
Searches were conducted at the British Airways site and a residential address when the 30-year-old was arrested on 25 February, it has emerged.
Detectives have been given more time to interview him in London.
BA said it took security “extremely seriously” but would not comment further during the investigation.
The suspect was arrested by officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit as part of a joint operation with the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “On 25 February a 30-year-old man was arrested at a business address in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on suspicion of terrorist fund-raising.
“He remains in custody at a central London police station.
“Searches of the business premises, and residential premises in the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area, are complete.”
