Kounter Kulture goes live
A North East gallery is poised to galvanise the industry by giving art lovers total access to their favourite contemporary artists.
Opus Art, based in Gosforth, last week launched the KounterKulture website, which gives collectors the chance to watch and engage with an artist through the various stages of their work via webcam and social networking platforms.
Artists from the region have welcomed the new platform and are looking forward to having their work profiled in front of a global audience.
Wallsend artist, Teresa Duck, spoke to bdaily about the new site: “The new site allows your work to be taken out of the studio and into a completely different arena.
“People can question and have an input into your art in a way that’s never happened before. If anything it will actually attract more people to galleries because they’ll want to see first hand the work they’ve experienced online.”
Registered members to the site can also connect with each other and secretly trade pieces from their own collections.
Director of Opus Art, Don Smith, added: “Art lovers can understand an artist’s ability, his or her skills level and talent.
“They can contact the artist in a number of different ways. They can go on the forum site and type them a message, talk to them over the phone and Skpye the artist. This has been a ten year project and we’re all very much excited about future.”
