SSC makes passage to India
A North East technology organisation has landed in India in a bid to attract new investment from foreign IT companies looking to expand in Europe.
Delegates from Sunderland Software City are expected to visit Kerala, Chennai and Bangalore to meet prospective investors and will stage a seminar in Bangalore for IT SMEs today.
The CEO of Sunderland Software City, Bernie Callaghan, said: “With a regional economy of £38.8b, North East England has established an international reputation for innovation.
“When it comes to business, over 500 leading international companies have made the region their home. In 2007, the region ranked among the top five performing regions for foreign direct investment.”
The latest Indian company to set up in the North East is Fifth Generation Technologies, a software firm from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
5G has set its sights on tapping into the European market in the retail, manufacturing, sports and energy sector and has since set up a new research facility in Sunderland.
Research now shows 55% of Indian investments in North East England have expanded in the last six years.
There are currently 15 Indian companies in the region including Shasun, Motherson Sumi Systems Limited and Tech Mahindra, employing over 1500 people.
