Debt collector delivers jobs boost

The new London-based owner of a North East debt collection firm has set out plans to create 40 new jobs in the region, while doubling the size of its regional office.

Debt management and enforcement group JBW Group yesterday announced the acquisition of Darlington’s National Enforcement Services (NES), creating one of the largest northern bailiff operations.

The 30-year-old firm’s 14 current staff have been assured their jobs are safe and the company will now operate under the JBW banner, although the NES brand will also continue to trade.

The business plans to concentrate on local authority work and says it has already secured two new contracts in the North.

It is also putting together proposals for Durham and Newcastle city councils and, over the next two years, aims to generate 40 new bailiff and administrative jobs.

JBW was formed in 2004 by young entrepreneur Jamie Waller and now employs over 100 people nationwide.

The acquisition of NES will see its current head Andy Coates join JBW’s board of directors and he will continue to lead the North East operation.

He said: “Joining the JBW Group is an exciting time for us as it gives us the opportunity to further strengthen our bailiff operations and expand our services under the banner of a fantastically forward-thinking firm.”

Mr Waller, who plans to double the size of the Darlington operation’s Lingfield Point office, said: “I have seen the successes of NES and wanted to invest in a company that was on its way-up, not on its way-out and approached Andy with the acquisition offer.

“The Darlington and the North-East is a fantastic base for my operation as the whole region is innovative and passionate about driving business forward.”
